Haven 2000 Wins Early Years Setting of the Year

Shine a Light Awards

Paul Ross Presents The Shine a Light Award

On the 21st of November this year, myself,  Maria Riley(Manager) and Tammy Leka (Deputy) represented our Nursery , The Haven 2000 at The Shine a Light Awards in London. The award was sponsored by Pearson Assessment and The Communication Trust. We were absolutely delighted to win “Early Years Setting of the Year.”

The awards were first developed as part of 2011’s Hello campaign – the national year of communication – to honour  individuals, teams, projects and communities which have demonstrated excellence in supporting the needs of all children and young people’s communication.

The judges told us we were chosen for the award for our strong evidence of having speech, language and communication needs as part of our culture and ethos and for our use of Makaton sign language with children who are prelinguistic or who speak English as a second language. The judges were also impressed by our creative involvement of parents and carers in their child’s development.

It seems strange to be honoured with an award for doing what we do every day but now we are in the fortunate position of having a vehicle to promote a vital  message,  that supporting  children’s communication in the Early Years is essential to their development.
